As a songwriter and musician I do a lot of recording in my digital home studio. It's loaded with drums, guitars, assorted audio recording gear and there's even a nice weighted key electric piano with MIDI capability which I use for synth and piano work through my computer.
The problem was, the size and shape of my studio required putting the keyboard on the other side of the room from my editing desk , on which my audio/MIDI interface resides. So I needed a long MIDI cable to bring the data from the keyboard around to the desk.
