Dark Water

I'm a fan of spooky movies, and when I saw previews for Dark Water I thought I was in for a treat. Once I viewed it I was moderately dissapointed. It was just okay.

Over the past two years there has been a boom of supernatural horror flicks making the box office circuit, plenty of direct to video titles (many of which shouldn't have even made it that far!), and even a resurgence in supernatural and paranormal television shows, like obviously "Supernatural," "Invasion," even an attempt to revive "The Night Stalker," one of my favorites as I was growing up.

Some of the more creepy movie offerings have proven well worth the ticket price or rental fee, even worth the full purhase price of the DVD. Others have fallen far short. Dark Water is somewhere in between; it's worth the rental, but I'm glad I didn't pay $8 to see it at the theater. I also wouldn't shell out the money to buy it. I wouldn't watch it again.

Dark Water had a decent story, but it was told strangely, and it took way too long to get to the end of a simple idea. Special effects were overused, and misleading plot points throw the viewer off. The only saving grace in the movie is the cute, well behaved daughter of the lead character. No other characters really shine through.

Dark Water doesn't live up to what the trailer promises.
