This book tops out at 130 written pages (excluding index and footnotes). Of those 130 pages, 50 consist entirely of schematics and photographs obtained from publicly accessible sources. That means Sauder wrote approximately 80 pages for this book. I won't comment on the research aspect of this book. Sauder obviously has done some; and research, whether it takes a month or a year, is research.
But when 80% of the work contains speculative commentary on unproven notions of UFOs, aliens, and government cover-ups, how much useful fact is actually presented?
Sauder provides nice schematics and illustrations of proposed underground facilities, some of which may have been actually constructed, but for which he provides no proof, NORAD and other known facilities notwithstanding.
He colors his research liberally with talk of Government/alien conspiracies, underground UFO bases and research of unconventional technologies, cattle mutilations, new world order, abductions and implants. All of which is complete speculation, and part of a growing subculture of "belief" with no basis in fact or rational consideration.
Almost every speculative entry Sauder makes is accompanied by a phrase like, "I cannot provide factual documentation...", "I can offer no proof...", "I don't have many answers...", "I do not know whether the alleged tunnel systems are real or not.", or "I simply do not know..."
Anyone with a functioning brain and access to the internet can find information on tunneling systems and boring machines. This is not secret technology, and the government does not deny the existence of underground storage and defense facilities. Information on underground atomic testing conducted at the Nevada Test Site is readily available online as well.
Likewise to Sauders claims, I can neither confirm nor deny the existence of alien underground bases or a massive US Government and Alien conspiracy. But I didn't write a book about it, and I suspect it's unlikely. But I remain prepared to eat my words.
Certainly governments are capable of mistakes, outright desception and unscrupulous acts. But there is a reason most government officials will smirk at the mention of UFOs and aliens, and it's not because they're covering something up. It's because, for all practical purposes, the topic is absurd, fictitious and fantastical, no matter how entertaining and intriguing it may be.
